Common Crimes Committed McCarran International Airport

Possession of Marijuana Charges at McCarran International Airport

Possessing a Weapon at McCarran International Airport

In Nevada, individuals are not permitted to carry weapons while at the airport. NRS 202.350 categorizes the various objects as types of weapons:

  • Swords
  • Firearms
  • Knives or daggers
  • Switchblades
  • Explosives
  • Clubs or bats

If an individual is found is possession of a weapon while at a Nevada airport, he or she will usually be charged with a category D or C felony. A category D felony is punishable by up to between one to four years in prison, and/ or a fine of up to $5,000. While a category C felony carries a prison sentence between one to five years, and /or up to a $10,000 fine.

It is important to note that anytime an individual is charged with a weapons related offense at the airport, if law enforcement is able to prove that the individual intended to cause harm to other individuals or passengers, he or she can face enhanced charges and penalties.

The Bureau has a small station at the Airport located at 5757 Wayne Newton Boulevard.
